About Us
Thornbury Castle Band are a brass band based in Thornbury, just north of Bristol. The band has been running since 1980 when they formed as
the Thornbury Junior Band. In 1990 we became Thornbury Castle Band. We play a wide range of music -
some pieces we are currently playing are the theme music from 'The Simpsons', Cimarosa's 'The Impresario' (a Dennis Wright brass band classic)
Choral & Rockout (a piece from mid-70s consisting of a hymn-like opening and a jazzy final as the name suggests)
plus recent pieces such as a new arrangement of Sway, and many new arrangements by various companies around the world.
In 2006 we played a concert on Thornbury FM, a radio station which broadcast for two weeks.
Every Christmas we can be heard playing at the Mall, Cribbs Causeway. In summer we play many fetes at schools and
private events. Last year we played at a Thornbury "prom night".
We raise money for specific charities, including several Churches (recently St Mary's in Yate)
and a local music group. This consists either of playing a concert where proceeds (or part proceeds) go to the charity
or a simple donation.
The band is enthusiastically supported and has around 35 members, the age range is (approximately) 12 to 65.
We practise every Tuesday at 7:30pm to 9:30pm in the Thornbury Sea Cadets Centre.
Our conductor, Alice Bodiley, is a music teacher in many schools in the area north of Bristol and many of our young
players are taught by Alice before joining the band.
If you wish to join a thriving brass band near bristol then call us. We practise on a Tuesday night at 7:30pm, please email the above address or ring Martyn on 0117 3774763 if you wish to join or simply come along for a practise.
